Indian School of Democracy (ISD) is a nonpartisan organization that conducts leadership programs for aspiring grassroots political leaders. Its mission is to nurture principled leaders who have the moral courage and imagination to make democracy inclusive for every citizen of India. ISD’s immersive programs like Democracy Express, She Represents, and The Good Politician equip aspiring leaders with the skills, mentorship, and support needed to run for office. By reducing barriers to entry for youth and women from underserved communities, ISD hopes to make politics an aspirational avenue for public service, where competent minds, compassionate hearts, and committed hands come to serve.
Personal Bio
Hemakshi Meghani, the co-founder of Indian School of Democracy (ISD), completed her master’s in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) as a World Bank Graduate Scholar. At HKS, she served as co-chair for the India Conference and as an executive committee member of Women at HKS. She was part of the Harvard Square to Oval Office program‚ which trains women to run for office. Hemakshi started her journey as a Teach for India fellow and then worked toward implementation of national education policy. She has also worked as a consultant with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for a statewide education reform project in the tribal state of Odisha in India. Hemakshi has attended and facilitated various leadership forums across the world and is a trained coach in adaptive leadership. She wants to spend her lifetime working for an India that is more equitable for women and youth from underserved communities.
