Jamii Life matches people who are unable to access or afford expert homecare with health workers and family caregivers of color. Based in South Africa, Jamii Life facilitates and supports the creation of social infrastructure that provides access to homecare to everyone that requires it, and also provides tools and training to caregivers. These caregivers (mostly women) can now grow their careers, increase their respect within families, and become valued members of society, as they no longer have to leave employment to care for their own loved ones. Jamii Life is a joint winner of the Skoll Early Venture Award and a recipient of the Social Innovation and Change Initiative fellowship at Harvard.
Personal Bio
Zeenith Ebrahim, founder of Jamii Life, spent more than a decade in the private sector conceptualizing and executing rail and health care projects to advance public-sector goals across Africa. She focused on skills development and employment creation in manufacturing in the transportation sector and enabling access to health care equipment across Africa through local partnerships. At Jamii Life, she combines her passions to create meaningful work opportunities and community care and improve health outcomes so that communities like where she grew up can flourish and prosper. Zeenith received the Nelson Mandela Scholarship to complete her M.B.A. at Oxford and the Harvard South Africa Fellowship to complete her M.P.A. at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
