Aiming to build a portfolio of technological solutions to help courts build capacity, Adalat AI seeks to end judicial delays, improve access to justice, and transform the legal landscape. Adalat AI focuses on leveraging AI technology to address inefficiencies within judicial systems in India and other developing countries. Adalat AI’s flagship solution is an AI-powered speech-to-text legal transcription tool, which addresses a critical backlog caused by a lack of trained stenographers.

Personal Bio

Utkarsh Saxena is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Adalat AI. He has a decade of legal practice across various courts in India, including clerking for an Indian Supreme Court justice. He has collaborated with the Ministry of Law and Justice and the Ministry of Finance to reduce court delays. Recognizing systemic challenges, Utkarsh pivoted to building technological innovations for justice systems in India and the Global South. He holds dual bachelors in economics and law from the University of Delhi, a master of laws from Harvard Law School as an Inlaks scholar, and a masters in public administration in international development from Harvard Kennedy School as a John M. Olin Fellow. His award-winning thesis laid the groundwork for his Ph.D. at the University of Oxford, research visits at MIT and Harvard University, and the establishment of Adalat AI. After graduate school, Utkarsh worked with Boston Consulting Group and the World Bank. Utkarsh advocates for queer rights in his personal and professional capacity, petitioning the Indian Supreme Court to legalize marriage equality and appearing in oral arguments in the case.
