Protectores de la Tierra’s mission is to end food insecurity in Colombia’s Black and Indigenous communities. They ensure abundant harvests and reduce dependency on food imports by leveraging communal land rights to regenerate forest farms using sustainable agricultural methods that blend traditional practices with modern strategies. Protectores de la Tierra educates future generations of farmers to secure local food sources and thereby reverse migration trends for long term impact. They envision thriving, self-sufficient communities with access to nutritious food, preserving cultural heritage and fostering economic growth.

Personal Bio

Yura Sapi is co-founder of Protectores de la Tierra, a project to end food insecurity and foster prosperous Black and Indigenous communities in Colombia. Yura is a seasoned community organizer and artist who founded an LGBTIQ+ arts and healing venue in Bogotá called Balistikal, a global podcast Building Our Own Tables showcasing founders of color of theater organizations, and LiberArte, a 501c3 performing arts nonprofit accelerating global solidarity work. Named a 2018 Innovative Cultural Advocacy Fellow and a 2023 Braiding Seeds Fellow, Yura is passionate about bringing about generational healing and cultural equity, one seed at a time. They live in intersectionality – they are gender non-binary and Indigenous Kichwa Ecuadorian and Colombian.
