bold idea

Make reliable drinking water more accessible in low-income communities in Chad by building community-run, pay-per-use water services.

organization overview

O’Nadif provides affordable safe water to underserved communities in Chad that lack reliable filtration infrastructure. The organization manufactures and installs community-run filtration stations where families collect water daily at a low cost. Local women and youth are trained to monitor quality, maintain equipment, and ensuring lasting and reliable service. By combining local ownership, transparent quality tracking, and a sustainable pricing model, O’Nadif replaces temporary water distribution with a dependable local service, building toward its long-term vision of a future where safe water is a normal public utility accessible in every low-income community.

Personal Bio

Abakar Mahamat is the founder of O’Nadif. His work centers on building pay-per-use water stations operated by trained local staff, allowing families to collect safe water daily at an affordable price. Abakar grew up between Abéché and peri-urban neighborhoods where safe water was uncertain and preventable illness was common. Before O’Nadif, he created Box Nadif, an early effort to improve hygiene access during COVID-19, and later founded Telemedan, a telemedicine kiosk focused on expanding health care access in remote areas. These experiences shaped his belief that essential services must be simple, affordable, and locally operated to last. For his work in social innovation, Abakar has been recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and been awarded the National Excellence Prize by the President of the Republic of Chad. He is driven by the conviction that reliable basic services restore dignity and opportunity in underserved communities.
