Personal Bio

Isaac Esene is the founder and executive director of GoodWorks, an organization that simplifies life-saving concepts such as bleeding control, opioid overdose response, harm reduction, and CPR. Born in Washington, DC and raised in nearby Prince George’s County, Maryland, he served as a dedicated medic in the United States Air Force, where he responded to health crises and disasters in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Recognized as D.C. Air National Guardsman of the Year for his exceptional service, Isaac played a crucial role in establishing collaborative training initiatives that ensure ethical protester interactions and prioritize health and safety precautions. After helping set up a refugee camp during a military deployment, Isaac sharpened his leadership and diplomacy skills, collaborating with various federal agencies, international NGOs, and local partners. Motivated by this experience and the personal tragedy of losing a childhood friend to gun violence, Isaac founded GoodWorks in 2022. In response to public safety challenges in the D.C. area — including gun violence, opioid overdoses, and health inequality — GoodWorks equips underserved youth with basic life-saving skills by leveraging a diverse team of trained instructors and volunteers, ranging from first responders and healthcare workers to pre-professional students.
